Ten Minutes – that’s what we ask for

You are serious about animals and their welfare, but don’t know what to do? You want to do something for them, but don’t have the time? You don’t know where to start from, being kind?

Not an option any more. We are too connected electronically now to give these excuses.

To start with, visit the websites of the large NGOs who have been working with animals since decades. Their reports, their stories and articles will give you a fair idea of the type of work that goes on in animal welfare and the issues that are handled. Such organizations very often need volunteers to help with their campaigns and emails.

If you want to go local, google out shelters and facilities around your city. Shelters always run short of man power and you can check out where you can fit in.

If you are a vegetarian or a vegan, write and talk about the reasons why you are so, about your journey to friends, families, and strangers. The more people hear and see someone who they can relate with, the easier it will be for them to consider the change.

Send a donation, however small may it be, to an animal organization of your choice. You may claim that we love the work they do, but they can’t do it without support from you.

Share the animal related videos with your friends. Seeing is believing, and visuals do the best work of opening people’s minds and hearts to any social cause.

Leave a comment for an animal org on their website or google, thanking them for their hard work.

Do you know any restaurant that offers only nonveg food, or has limited vegetarian options? Email them, call them or meet the Management with your suggestions. You will be surprised how businesses have started paying heed to consumer advice in recent times.

Email clothing companies who are still selling clothes made with silk and wool, and suggest them alternative raw materials.

Whenever you hear of a company that is stepping up to the plate to make change for the good of animals, send them a quick email to thank them.

If you find a restaurant locally who is offering Foie Gras or Veal on their menu, ( you will be surprised that many restaurants in metropolitan cities in India do have these products on the menu ) , send them a polite email letting them know what the animals go through to become these dishes. Sometimes they have no idea and will actually pull them from the menu.

Send an email to the mega grocery and stationery stores and ask them to use environment friendly packaging only. Mega businesses always respect customer opinions.

Try to get local Cable TV channels to transmit simple animal friendly advertisements.

A small amount of your time will bring in the small waves of big changes. Never underestimate the Power of One – You can be the One to make a difference in the life of an animal.
