New and Advanced Veterinary Hospital Wing Opens Its Doors

Thane CPCA, the only facility of its kind in the district offering advanced veterinary medical care, quickly became a critical hub for animals in need. However, as the demand for services grew, the available space struggled to keep up.

Over the years, space constraints posed challenges that have impacted both the efficiency of the care we could provide and the comfort of the animals and their caretakers.

Despite our team’s best efforts, the limitations were significant:

The surgery room was too small for multiple procedures, causing delays. OPD patients with contagious diseases had to be seen one at a time, leading to long wait times for caretakers. Animals needing orthopedic surgeries had to be physically carried to the Xray room mid-procedure, a traumatic experience for them and difficult for the staff.

A New Chapter: Expansion into a Modern Facility

Recognizing these limitations, the Thane CPCA management took a major step forward by expanding into a new 2,500 sq. ft. rental space adjoining the original facility. This move marked a turning point in our journey. It led to the inauguration of the New and Advanced Veterinary Hospital Wing, which we have named the Peppy & Ginger Wing, in memory of two beloved dogs – a modern facility designed to uphold the values of compassion, scientific precision, and seamless service for animals in need.

Journey of the Project

The Role of the Old Facility Today

Even as we celebrate our new wing, our original hospital continues to play a vital role in
daily operations. It now supports specialized functions:

All admitted animals – from cats and dogs to birds and reptiles – are cared for in this wing. With digitized systems in place, all formalities like admissions, case paper entries, and patient tracking are handled efficiently and are always available.

Designed to isolate infectious cases, the sick bay caters to animals suffering from
conditions like gastroenteritis and distemper. It is located away from the OPD, kennels, and cattery to reduce the risk of transmission.

A dedicated area provides specialized aquatic housing for rehabilitating tortoises.

The original X-ray machine is now reserved exclusively for admitted patients. This
separation ensures that in-patients and out-patients do not mingle, enhancing both safety and comfort.

A Glance into Our New Pillar of Care

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure

“Why such an elaborate structure when a simple shed could suffice?” – It’s a question we’ve been asked often. Our answer is simple: Why not?

Animals experience hunger, pain, and love just as we do. They deserve the same standard of care and dignity. And our veterinarians, who work just as hard, if not harder than their human medicine ounterparts, need an environment that enables them to do their best.

Treating animals is complex. It requires interpreting signs from beings who cannot speak, who have diverse anatomical structures, and who rely on us entirely for relief and healing.

Advanced veterinary infrastructure is not a luxury- it’s a necessity. It ensures compassionate, precise, and timely care, safer, more effective treatments, better outcomes for animals and their caregivers, a stronger, healthier human-animal bond, and ultimately, contributes to public health and community well-being.

Every life matters, and this is our commitment to those who cannot speak for themselves.

Dedicated OPD Zones

We have four dedicated cubicles where animals are treated individually. This private setup allows our veterinarians to focus more effectively, provides a calm and confidential space for caretakers and pet parents, and prevents animals from being exposed to one another

Enhanced Surgical Suites

Space, which was previously a major constraint, has now been addressed with our new, spacious Surgical Suite. It can accommodate two surgical cases simultaneously, making procedures more efficient and comfortable for both surgeons and their assistants. The former operating theatre has been converted into a dedicated Preparation Room, located away from the kennels to help minimize stress in animals.

Pathology

Outsourcing blood reports had been a significant expense, so we chose to install our blood analyzer within the new facility. This has eliminated waiting time for emergency blood tests, allowing accurate treatment to begin immediately. We also plan to upgrade the machine soon to offer additional diagnostic services.

Pharmacy

Previously, our medicine stock room was shared by staff for multiple purposes, making it vulnerable to various infiltrations. In our new facility, the Pharmacy is secured with biometric access restricted to authorized personnel only. It is now rodent-proof and protected against pilferage. With vaccines and medicines stored together in a dedicated space, maintaining accurate stock records has also become much more efficient.

Mobile X Ray with DR system

Having the ability to wheel our new X-ray machine directly into the Operating Theatre after critical surgeries has been a true blessing. It spares both the animals and our staff from the stress and trauma of moving patients to the old X-ray room during or after surgery.

Innovated Tools

Previously, our highly sensitive CTX Laser machine and Indirect Ophthalmoscope had to share space with various other surgical equipment. Now, each has its dedicated area, ensuring better safety, organization, and ease of use.

Audio Visual Room

Providing medical care for animals is essential, but it is equally important to raise awareness about animal welfare. Visual storytelling often has a more powerful impact than words alone, which is the goal of our new Audio-Visual Room. This space is designed to take both students and adults on an eye-opening journey, showcasing not only the harsh realities that animals face but also the numerous efforts being made to alleviate their suffering.

Renovated Kitchen

Freshly cooked breakfast and lunch for our staff, and nutritious lunch and dinner for ouranimals, prepared in a bright, well-equipped space gifted to our beloved KitchenSupervisor, Sushila Ji. What more could we ask for! It was a long-held dream, especiallyafter watching her manage in a cramped kitchen for so long, and now, that dream has finally come true
